Want a fun Christmas movie? Check this one out. You’ll like it, it’s about Santa Clause being evil and killing people. And Santa Clause is played by that WCW / WWE wrestler Bill Goldberg. And believe it or not, he’s actually pretty good in the role.

This is one of those films that’s shallow. It’s meant to be nothing more than pure surface level entertainment. It doesn’t take itself seriously, and doesn’t expect you to take it seriously. Yet there’s enough sincere effort put into this to make it stand above the average schlock. Maybe being made in Canada had something to do with it. Or giving Santa a more Norse mythological edge (check the design of his sleigh).

I mean, there really isn’t much to say about it without just recapping all that happens. The acting ranges from subpar to decent. The dialogue is 90% forced; as in much of it comes off as unnatural like they’re being forced to make this joke work. Make no mistake, in spite of what the cover implies, this is a film that aims to be much more a comedy than a horror/thriller. Because the one thing this film is not is a horror film.
The one thing I will say about it is that there is this one segment that pays homage to the Rankin/Bass stop-motion films of yore. It’s not up to the quality of those old films (and that’s saying a lot), but it’s a fun little moment that shows there was a bit of heart put into this silly flick.
This was made on a budget, but man did they make the most out of what they had. Not to mention the kills never get monotonous. I swear, each time Santa kills someone, it is done in a way completely unique to every other murder he’s done up to that point. The film has to be given kudos for that alone. Plus it’s shot well, and Goldberg, being an ex-professional wrestler, does his own stunts.

And, that’s it, that’s the review. This is a good dumb fun movie that’s worth a watch for Christmas. Keeping this short and simple.
